Biocatálise

Biocatalysis is the use of enzymes as catalysts in organic synthesis. Among the main sources of enzymes, our interest is to work with pieces of plants for several reasons (see figure below).

 

Main sources of biocatalysts

 Specifically, we are using carrot bits as biocatalysts for very simple reasons:

 

Carrots are highly enantioselective

Typical procedure (is as simple as a recipe)

Currently our efforts are aimed to increase the efficiency of this unusual catalyst. It is still unattractive in scale-up approach.
